1.What Main Character is

Main Character is a work of interactive fiction. You create a fictionalised character, enter a simulated social world, and post, comment, and message your way through a story.

The cast is fictional. The recurring characters, their profiles, posts, comments, direct messages, rivalries, and opinions are generated by artificial intelligence. They are labelled as AI characters in the App. They are not real people, they are not played by real people, and nothing they say represents the views of any real person or of us. Any resemblance to a real person is coincidental and unintended. The App will not write, and you may not ask it to write, content that presents a real, identifiable person as having said or done something.

Your story is your own. What you post is shown to you and to the cast that reacts to it, not to other players. Other players are in the world — some ambient content the characters write is generated once and shown to everyone — but they are not an audience for your posts, and you are not an audience for theirs. Section 3 of our Privacy Policy sets out precisely what is and is not visible to anyone else.

The App is entertainment. It is not a social network, a dating service, a therapist, a friend, or a source of advice — financial, medical, legal, or otherwise. Do not rely on anything a character says as fact.

The App is free to play with daily limits, and an optional subscription raises them. Section 8 sets out how that works.

2.Who may use the App

You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. If you are between 13 and 17, you may use it only where the law allows and, where required, with the permission of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

Your age is asked once, before an account exists. The App asks for your date of birth before it creates anything. If the date you enter means you are under 13, no account is created, nothing you entered is kept, and the App tells you it is not available to you. You must give your real date of birth. We do not verify it, but it cannot be changed afterwards, and if we later learn that an account belongs to someone under 13 we will restrict it so it can no longer be used and delete it under the Privacy Policy.

Your declared age does not change the content rules. The App has one standard for everyone: no sexual content, for any player, at any age, on any screen. Declaring an adult age unlocks nothing.

You may not use the App if you are barred from doing so under applicable law or if we have previously terminated or restricted your access.

3.Your account

The App creates an anonymous account for you when you first open it — no email address or password is required. That has a consequence you should understand:

Until you save it, your account is tied to your device. The only copy of that identity is the session stored on your phone, so if you delete the App, wipe the device, or lose it, your character and story are gone and nobody can get them back — not you, and not us.

Saving your account fixes that, and is up to you. You can attach an email address or use Sign in with Apple at any time, from your profile. It keeps everything as it is and gives you a way back in. Until you do, we are not liable for lost progress.

You are responsible for activity that happens through your account. Do not share your device or session with someone who should not have access to it.

Accounts that are created and abandoned are removed automatically: within 48 hours if no character was created, and after 30 days if a character was created but never used. See our Privacy Policy for details.

4.Rules of play

You agree that you will not use the App to create, send, or upload content that:

• sexualises minors in any way;
• is sexually explicit or sexually suggestive, at any age and on any surface;
• harasses, bullies, threatens, or targets a real person, including impersonating one or using their name, likeness, or private information;
• promotes hatred or violence against people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or age;
• encourages or depicts self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders;
• depicts graphic violence or cruelty;
• promotes illegal activity, or the sale of drugs, weapons, or other regulated goods;
• infringes someone else’s intellectual property, privacy, or other rights;
• is spam, a scam, or an attempt to advertise or solicit.

You also agree not to:

• attempt to circumvent, disable, or manipulate the App’s content moderation, age gate, rate limits, or safety systems, including through prompt injection or jailbreaking, or misrepresent your age;
• ask an AI character to produce sexual content, to impersonate a real person, or to make claims about a real, identifiable person;
• reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, or automate access to the App or our servers, or use bots or scripts to play;
• access another player’s data, probe or attack our infrastructure, or interfere with the App’s operation;
• use the App or its outputs to train a competing model or to build a competing product;
• resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the App or the content generated within it;
• use the App for any unlawful purpose.

Do not post personal information. Yours or anyone else’s. Even though other players cannot read your posts, do not include real names, addresses, schools or workplaces, phone numbers, or other social media handles — your account is anonymous by design and there is no reason for us to hold any of it.

Photographs. You may attach a photograph to a post. It is not shown to other players, but it does reach our servers and our image classifier, and it is kept until you delete the post or your account. Only post a picture you have the right to post: your own, or one you have permission to share. Do not post photographs of other people without their consent, of children, or of anything that breaks the rules above. Every image is checked automatically before it appears anywhere, and one that fails is deleted rather than published.

Moderation. Content you write, any photograph you attach, content our characters generate, and the display name, username and pronouns on your profile all pass through automated moderation before they appear anywhere. Sexual content is not permitted anywhere in the App, by any author, at any age — this is not something an adult account or a subscription switches off. Because the shared parts of the world are read by players of every age, everything that can reach them is judged by one standard, as though a 13-year-old may read it. If our moderation systems are unavailable, content is held back rather than published unchecked. We may block, remove, or alter content, restrict features, or suspend, restrict or terminate an account that breaks these rules. We are not obliged to pre-screen content, but we may.

Reporting. You can report a post, a reply, a message or a character from the “…” menu next to it, choosing a reason (sexual content, harassment, hate or abuse, threats, spam, or something else). Reports are recorded and reviewed, and reports in the most serious categories are escalated for human attention. Please do not misuse reporting.

Blocking. You can block any AI character. A blocked character disappears from your feed, stops reacting to your posts, and cannot be messaged. Because other players cannot see or contact you in the App, there is nothing else to block.

Removing your own content. You can delete any post or reply you wrote from the “…” menu next to it, and you can delete your whole account from Settings.

5.Your content

You keep ownership of the content you create in the App — your posts, comments, messages, photographs, and character details (“Your Content”).

You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, and display Your Content for the limited purpose of operating, securing, and improving the App — including sending it to our AI provider so the story can respond to it, and processing it through moderation. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies retained in backups or safety records as described in our Privacy Policy.

You confirm that you have the right to submit Your Content and that it does not break the rules in section 4.

6.AI-generated content

Content in the App is generated by AI models, and AI models are imperfect. Generated content may be inaccurate, nonsensical, repetitive, or — despite our filters — upsetting or offensive. We do not endorse it, we cannot guarantee it, and we make no promise about its accuracy or suitability.

To the extent we hold any rights in the content the App generates for you, we assign them to you for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms. Note that AI-generated output may not be protected by copyright in some jurisdictions, and that similar content may be generated for other players.

If a character says something that seems seriously wrong, report it in the App.

7.Our intellectual property

The App itself — its software, design, artwork, characters, world, story systems, prompts, name, and branding — belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. We grant you a personal, limited, revocable, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the App for your own non-commercial entertainment. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

8.Price and purchases

Free. You can play without paying. The free tier is a complete game, not a demo, but it is metered: there are daily limits on the actions that cost us AI generation — posts, messages, story events, and the character reactions they produce. When you reach a limit, that action pauses until the limit resets the next day. There is no advertising in the App.

Premium. An optional subscription raises those daily limits substantially and unlocks premium features, such as characters that remember further back, the full cast rather than the starter circle, and higher-quality writing on story beats and direct messages. The current limits, features, and prices are shown in the App before you buy, and the App Store or Google Play price is always the one that applies.

How subscriptions work. Subscriptions are sold and charged through the Apple App Store or Google Play under those stores’ payment terms — we never see or hold your payment details. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel, and cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. You cancel through your store account’s subscription settings; deleting the App does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by the store under its own policy — we cannot issue them directly, though we will help where we can.

We may change limits, features, and prices. If a change reduces what an active subscription gives you, we will tell you in the App before it takes effect, and you may cancel. Premium features are a licence to use them while your subscription is active, not property: they have no cash value, are not redeemable for money, and end when the subscription ends or the account is terminated.

9.Availability and changes

We may add, change, suspend, or remove features at any time, and we may limit availability of the App in a country or region. We may also stop offering the App altogether. We will give reasonable notice of a shutdown where we can, but the App is provided on an ongoing best-effort basis and we do not guarantee that your character, world, or story will be available forever.

10.Termination and restriction

You may stop using the App at any time. There is a Delete account control in the App, under your profile: it asks you to type a word to confirm, and then removes your character, your world, and everything you have written, at once and irreversibly. You can also ask us by emailing support@maincharacter.world.

We may suspend, restrict or terminate your access, with or without notice, if you break these Terms, if we learn the account belongs to someone under 13, if we are required to by law, or if continuing to serve you would create a risk for other users or for us. A restricted account can no longer be used; it shows a screen from which you can contact us or delete the account, and nothing on that screen can lift the restriction. When an account is terminated, your character, world, and content may be permanently deleted. Sections 5 (as to licences already exercised), 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, and 15 survive termination.

11.Disclaimers

The App is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted or error-free operation.

Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law in your country, and if such law gives you guarantees we cannot exclude, those guarantees apply.

12.Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost game progress, arising from or related to your use of the App — even if we have been advised of the possibility.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims relating to the App is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US $50.

We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

13.Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of Your Content, your use of the App, or your breach of these Terms — except to the extent it results from our own wrongdoing.

14.Apple and Google

If you downloaded the App from the Apple App Store, you acknowledge that:

• these Terms are between you and us, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the App or its content;
• Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App;
• if the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); Apple has no other warranty obligation;
• Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to the App, including product liability, regulatory non-compliance, or consumer protection claims;
• Apple is not responsible for investigating or resolving any third-party intellectual property claim relating to the App;
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

Equivalent terms apply to Google LLC where you obtained the App from Google Play. Your use of the App must also comply with the applicable store’s terms of service.

15.Disputes and governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of the United Arab Emirates have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live, and mandatory consumer protections there continue to apply to you.

Before starting formal proceedings, please email support@maincharacter.world so we can try to resolve the issue informally. We ask for 30 days to do so.

16.General

• Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the App.
• Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
• No waiver. Not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.
• Assignment. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
• Changes. We may update these Terms. If the changes are material we will notify you in the App before they take effect. Continuing to use the App after that means you accept them.
